William Lourdayyan RIP

William Lourdayyan, 61, passed away at the Jubilee Memorial Hospital on Thursday after a prolonged illness for about two months. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Trivandrum in 1975. A man with a dream for the community he belonged to and the diocese, he served with commitment in many parishes and also as the Director of the Pastoral Ministry. He was one of the founding fathers of St. Jude's College at Thoothoor which changed the very nature of the region for the better. He did his LL. B from the University of Bangalore and M. A in Christianity from Mysore University.
In 1998, he 'left' priesthood to marry a nun, Thankamma. After the marriage he wrote a book on the burning to death of Mr. Stanes and his two little sons in their vehicle in Orissa. He also seems to have registered for research in the M. S. University. Have twin daughters. He established St. Antony's School upto VIII having some 560 students.
In the climax of his illness, he seemed to have sought for anointing of the sick, which was not given, as he was not 'dispensed' from 'priesthood!' Also his unexpected death left many wondering what the church is! How can the church confine the mercy of God to exclude anyone from its embrace? Paul said that we are no more under any law, as Jesus has freed us from all such bondages. It is no more the law which is at work, but the grace of God. But, now the church insists more on the Canon Law than on the mercy of God being revealed in the Scriptures!
Any sin should be 'absolved', if anyone thinks that 'absolution' is needed, at least at one's death bed. Let no one dictate terms to God! God's mercy so rampant in the scriptures, not to exclude anyone from it, not even the thrice betrayed Peter!
The authorities in the heart of heart know what is right, but don't have the guts to accept the dictates of their conscience, instead yeild to the 'canonists!' And they pay 'private' visits!
